As of the end of January, Zhejiang province’s total power capacity has surpassed 150 million kilowatts, reaching 152 million kilowatts, according to the latest report from State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co., Ltd. Of this, new energy sources accounted for 59.08 million kilowatts, nearly 40% of the total. Among renewable sources, wind and solar power reached 55.96 million kilowatts, adding 2.2 million kilowatts in just one month. This marks a milestone, with wind and solar power now surpassing coal to become Zhejiang’s largest energy source.

With the growing installed capacity, wind and solar energy are playing an increasingly crucial role in ensuring reliable power supply. On February 8, Zhejiang achieved a record peak output of 32.15 million kilowatts from wind and solar power, surpassing the 30-million-kilowatt mark for the first time. Of this, solar power alone reached a historic high of 28.64 million kilowatts.

In recent years, Zhejiang’s steady economic growth has driven robust energy demand. Taking advantage of its push to become a national clean energy demonstration province, the region has steadily optimized its energy structure, leading to continued growth in installed capacity. The province has introduced a series of policies to support new energy development, from project approvals and subsidies to ensuring grid integration, creating a favorable environment for the sector. Numerous energy companies have ramped up investment in Zhejiang, actively developing new energy projects and speeding up the construction of energy infrastructure. The substantial growth in installed capacity and the shift in energy structure have not only reduced carbon emissions but also bolstered Zhejiang’s energy security, fueling the province's high-quality economic growth.
