What is the swimsuit rule kids?

This is an update to my earlier review, which is intact below. The author was made aware of my review and surprise about the prayer scene in the book, and noted that it must have been an older edition of the book. He replaced the book with the newer version, which doesn't have the religious scene in it... and sent a signed copy. Much appreciated!

Original review:
The story is simple and the illustrations are engaging. One of the major scenes in the book to help other victims of abuse, though, involves the mom sitting with her children on the floor and praying "that God will keep children safe and that all kids will have someone to tell if they are touched in a wrong way." On one hand, I think this is an especially important and powerful scene, considering that many children are abused by people in their faith communities, and this scene makes it clear that this is not God's will, and they should still report it. On the other hand, I didn't know I was buying a religious book. I wanted a book that my entire family would be comfortable reading with the children, and not everyone in my family would be comfortable with that scene... and we're not a family that does spontaneous prayer in that way.

Finally, I like the concept of a swimsuit to let children know which parts are private parts. I wish the girl's swimsuit was a bikini instead of a one-piece, though. My kids are still toddlers with adorable, big, round bellies. We poke their bellies and kiss them and do all sorts of things that we would never do to their tender private parts. I don't want my daughter to think that her belly is somehow more private than her brother's belly is. So, a bikini would be better for the book's illustrations.

Before rushing to the beach this summer with the kids, you might want to brush up on water safety tips. One of those tips has to do with what your kids wear when swimming.

From lifeguards to moms on TikTok, everyone is talking about the “swimsuit color rule” — a simple rule that could ultimately help save someone’s life. Drowning is the number one cause of death for children under four, according to the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The color of a swimsuit is important — and not just for style. Brightly colored swimsuits, especially neon colors, are much easier to spot underwater. And that could make the difference between life and death if you or your kids encounter difficulty while swimming.

“We hear in drowning events that the responder thought the person was a shadow, or a towel, or a pile of leaves on the bottom when in reality it was a person, and the water was playing a trick on us,” ALIVE Solutions — which offers water safety tips and tools — explained in an Instagram post demonstrating how water can trick the eye and obscure people even in shallow water.

While highly visible swimsuits are important to make sure someone can be seen in the water, there are other steps you should take to help prepare you and your child for a safer day at the beach.

Wearing a life jacket, taking swimming lessons, paying attention to others in the water, defensive swimming (learning how to get away from someone who might grab you in the water) and knowing how to swim against a current can all make for stronger, more confident swimmers.
