There are a few things you can do to protect your baby’s hearing from loud noises. Aside from using noise cancelling headphones, you can also:

1. Use Earplugs

Earplugs can be very effective at blocking out noise. If you are in a loud environment, make sure to put earplugs in your baby’s ears. However, be careful when inserting them, so you don’t hurt your baby’s ear canal.

2. Monitor Volume Levels

It’s important to monitor the volume levels of your baby’s devices. This includes things like TVs, tablets, and phones. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that parents keep the volume at or below 45 decibels.

3. Limit Time in Loud Environments

If your baby is going to be in a loud environment, limit their time in it. The louder the noise, the shorter the time your baby should be exposed to it.

It’s best not to bring your baby to any events with loud noises, such as heavy metal concerts, sporting events, or fireworks displays. If you have no choice but to bring your baby with you, choose quieter concerts such as classical or country music concerts.

You will need excellent baby headphones if there’s nowhere to go to protect your baby from loud noises, such as during the 4th of July or New Year’s Eve..

4. Choose Age-Appropriate Toys

When choosing toys for your baby, pick ones that aren’t too loud. Avoid anything with sirens or other loud sounds. If a toy is too loud, it can damage your baby’s hearing.
